TikTok video size and specs

TikTok accepts MP4, WebM and MOV videos up to 4 GB, from 360 to 4096 pixels on each side, at 23 to 60 FPS. Every creator can post 3 minutes, and some accounts get 5 or 10. The table lists the limits TikTok documents itself, with the exact page each number came from and the date we last looked. If a number you expect is missing, that is deliberate. We only print values TikTok states in its own documentation, and the pages we could read do not give a fixed rule for things like the ideal aspect ratio.

Check it fits TikTok before you post

TikTok takes MP4, WebM and MOV files up to 4 GB. Every creator gets 3 minutes of video, and some accounts get 5 or 10. Resize your clip for TikTok first, so the frame is the right shape and nothing is cropped by surprise.

Pick a frame that survives the crop

TikTok is watched on a tall phone screen, so a landscape clip needs a plan. You can crop it to fill the screen, or fit it with bars above and below. Cropping looks more native, but it throws away the left and right edges, so check that your subject sits near the middle before you commit.

Captions, the username and the action buttons are drawn over your video by the app. Keep faces and any text you wrote away from the very top and bottom, and away from the right edge where the buttons sit. We have no official pixel numbers for those zones, so test with a private upload first.

Stay inside the pixel window

Anything between 360 and 4096 pixels on each side is accepted, which covers nearly every phone recording. There is no benefit in going to the top of that range. A very large file takes longer to upload and gives you more chances for a stalled transfer on mobile data.

If your clip was shot at an odd frame rate, such as a slow-motion 120 FPS recording, it sits outside the documented 23 to 60 window. The docs do not say what happens to such a clip, so the simplest course is to convert it to a rate inside the window before you upload.

Mind the length for your account

Three minutes is the length every creator can post. Some accounts can go further, but you should not assume yours can. If a clip is just over your limit, trimming a quiet intro is usually better than speeding the whole thing up.

Your video stays on your device while you resize or trim it with our tools, so you can try different cuts without uploading anything.

Questions

What is the TikTok upload file size limit?

TikTok documents a maximum of 4 GB per video for posting. That is far above what a short phone clip weighs, so most people hit the length limit first.

Which video format should I use for TikTok?

MP4 with H.264 video is the recommended choice. WebM and MOV are also accepted, along with H.265, VP8 and VP9 codecs.

How long can a TikTok video be?

Every creator can post videos up to 3 minutes. Some accounts have access to 5 or 10 minutes. The longer options are rolled out per account, so look in the app to see what you have.

Does TikTok accept 4K video?

The pixel limit is 4096 on each side, so 4K fits. In practice a 1080 by 1920 vertical clip looks just as sharp on a phone and uploads much faster.
